We hope everyone had a pleasant and enjoyable holiday season.

2012 was a banner year for the Mumford High School Alumni Association. We reached new heights in attendance for each of our monthly meetings, the annual Round-Up and the Pancake Breakfast. We also found a record number of previously unrecorded alumnus through our newly upgraded websitewww.mumfordhsdetroitalumni.org and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, email, and just plain old “word of mouth”. Word of the association is getting around and we have all of you to thank for this. Your contributions, along with our improved communication channels and fundraising activities generated more than $20,000.00 in donations in 2012. This is the most ever collected in a single year by the alumni association. So give yourselves a hand, and a pat on the back, and please keep up the good work.

Many of us are still misty eyed over the demolition of “Big Blue,” and there are no words that can express the level of sentiment we share in the loss our beloved school. However, we now have a new state of the art facility and a faculty dedicated to improving the educational standards at Mumford. So, we must not allow our sentiments for the past to cloud our vision for the future. This is an incredible opportunity and a chance to renew our efforts to uphold the Mustang legacy and we can do better.

How? By becoming a member of the alumni association, becoming a contributor, or becoming a volunteer, mentor, or guest speaker. A one year membership in the alumni association is just $20.00. Lifetime memberships are only $300.00. The”Mustang 4 Life” paver project continues to be one of the best fundraising initiatives our organization has developed, with contributions to the program already generating over $16,000.00. With more than 2000 spaces remaining, it is still not too late to reserve your place in Mumford’s proud history. Meanwhile, the alumni association is always looking for more volunteers for our fundraising events. Keep your eyes open over the coming months for details on special programs, mentoring and guest speaking opportunities which are currently in the planning stages.

In all, we are looking to improve on 2012 successes, and the only ingredient necessary to achieve this goal is your continuing commitment to the Mustang legacy. With you, there is no limit to the level of success our organization can achieve. With you we can reach beyond $20,000.00 and continue to provide higher educational services to future Mumford students. With you the legacy of “Old Blue”will continue to live on. “Sweet, sweet, powder blue. Sweet, sweet, powder blue!`”

Go Mustangs,
